Healthful Uses for Baking Soda, Clutter Clean-up and the Best Mac & Cheese

When we set out to do episode 134, we had no idea the firestorm it would ignite, but it turns out, we are all very passionate about mac & cheese. Are you a Kraft powdered mac fan or do you prefer that cheesy, golden goodness of Velveta shells and cheese? Click here to read the full list of best and worst macs from The Washington Post.

Though not as equally important as mac & cheese ratings, here are a few healthful uses for baking soda we shared in this episode:

  1. Baking soda can relieve minor irritation, pain, itching, and redness from things like mosquito bites. Mix a paste of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water. Smear it on your skin and leave for 20 minutes before you wash it off.

  2. Brush your teeth with baking soda to physically remove plaque and help brighten and whiten your teeth. Brush your teeth as usual.  Then, dip a wet toothbrush into baking soda powder and brush again.

  3. Clarify your hair by mixing a teaspoon of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of your shampoo.  Lather into your hair and wash it out to remove buildup from hair products.

  4. Use baking soda to clean items like a baby’s tray, highchair, and toys. Pair it with vinegar to disinfect items. Be sure to rinse well.
